Start with the project you can describe

A garment use or a description is required so the brief has a purpose. Tell the team which piece you plan to make and what you want to judge in a sample. The sample list is optional and holds up to twelve distinct public reference IDs. An illustrated direction communicates an appearance preference; it does not become a confirmed article code or stocked item.

Separate hard requirements from preferences

Write the composition preference and use the hard-requirement option if it is mandatory. List weight and usable-width targets only when you have requirements, with width in centimetres. Keep appearance notes separate from measured repeat and article specifications. Unknown composition does not satisfy a hard 100% wool requirement. The brief asks for suitable articles and confirmation instead of filling in typical values.

Describe colour, quantity and sample stage

List each colour with its quantity and unit, such as metres or yards. Use a physical colour reference where available and explain a preferred colour relationship when it is still a direction. Choose swatches, a larger cutting, sample metreage or a recommendation. Add your target timing as a request. Actual sample supply, applicable minimum quantities and delivery conditions need the textile team's response.

Keep observations and trial questions together

The current observation and garment trial records can be included in the export. They retain your sample IDs, manual dimensions, viewing or working conditions and open questions. Typed entries stay in their original language while field labels change with the website language. The generated field labels in the exported brief are English so the discussion can use a consistent record structure.

Export, review and send yourself

Copy the full text, download a UTF-8 TXT, download a safely escaped CSV or print it. If clipboard access fails, a selectable text box is available. Long briefs need to be pasted into your own email; WhatsApp opens a short summary and you add the full text there. Contact fields are optional and stay in page memory. Saving a device draft excludes contacts and free text. A prepared link is not a sent or received enquiry.

Questions for this step

Can I create a brief with an empty reference list?

Yes. Provide an end use or a project description and ask Fred Textile to recommend suitable articles. The tool does not force a direction card into the request.

Will changing language translate my description?

Your original input is retained without automatic rewriting. Page text and labels change; the English export keeps the text you actually entered.

Is pressing Open email the same as submitting an enquiry?

No. It prepares a message in your own application. Review the text, add attachments and send it there, then check your own sent records and the team's reply.
